#7 Generals Take Down #2 Tigers, 65-61

SUNY Sullivan Advances to the Semifinals

[2/25/2026 Garden City, NY] - Today was the opening round (quarterfinals) for the NJCAA Region XV DIII Men's Basketball Tournament.  Your #7 seeded SUNY Sullivan Generals were on the road to face the #2 seeded Queensborough CC Tigers; due to facilities issues the game was moved to a neutral court at Nassau CC.  The Generals came out ready to play and were able to upset the #2 Tigers, 65-61, to advance into the Semifinals (final four).  The Generals were in control from the jump and went into halftime up nine (36-27); in the second half they handled Queensborough CC's run and remained on top when all was finished, 65-61.  SUNY Sullivan advances to the Semifinals held at Suffolk CC this upcoming weekend.

SUNY Sullivan was led by Tomas Hernandez and Quentin Richardson.  Freshman forward, Tomas Hernandez, went for a double-double finishing with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.  Freshman Quentin Richardson ended with a team-high 15 points with 3 assists.  The rest of the Generals scoring came from J.Reich (8), S.Henderson (6), B.Mercedes (6), X.Beckford (5), H.Niang (4), N.Sanchez (3), and D.Fowler (2).

Queensborough CC had Derick Charles and Jhereme Asamoah both finished with 11 points, apiece.  Ernesto Gonzales added 9 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

The SUNY Sullivan Generals advance to the next round of the NJCAA Region XV DIII Tournament; the next two rounds are held and hosted by Suffolk CC.  The Generals are back in action Saturday [2/28] at 7:30pm when they travel to Suffolk CC for the semifinals games against #3 seeded Monroe University-Bronx Express.  Winners of Saturday's game will advance to the Region XV CHampionship and a chance to make the NJCAA DIII National Tournament.
