New Rochelle, NY (12/11/21-12/12/21)- The Sullivan Generals were in New Rochelle over the weekend for the Monroe College Winter Mixer. The #8 ranked Generals faced off with the Howard Community College Dragons on Saturday and the Monroe Community College Tribunes on Sunday. Sullivan was able to go 2-0 over the weekend moving to 9-2 for the season.
On Saturday (12/11) the Sullivan Generals played the Howard CC Dragons from Maryland. Sullivan came out of the gates hot and were able to outscore the Dragons by six points in the first half, 45-39. The second half was a defensive battle as the Generals struggled to score with only 29 points but held the Dragons to only 33 and ultimately earning the two point, 74-72, victory. Sullivan was led by Kareem Welch who finished with 23 points, 5 rebound, and 5 assists. Jalen Reneau went for 18 points hitting four threes and dishing out 6 assists. Jay Alvarez added 12 points while the rest of the Generals scoring came from S.DeSouza (8), J.Minto (8), D.Jackson (3), and K.Tracey (2). Howard CC was led by David Garey with 24 points, DJ Tucker with a 10 point 11 rebound double-double, Cole Harshman with 13 points, and Daeshawn Eaton with 11 points.
On Sunday (12/12) The Generals were matched against the Tribunes from Monroe CC in Rochester. Sullivan was in control from the jump and went into halftime with a 50-32 lead. By the end of the game the Generals had earned the 97-63 win and moved to 9-2 on the season. Sullivan was led by a game high 23 points from Kareem Welch to go along with 10 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals. Fellow starters Jalen Reneau and Sam DeSouza both chipped in with 15 points apiece; Jay Alvarez added 12 points while Daivel Jackson went for 10 points. Jaheim Williams led the bench scoring with 10 points and the rest came from J.Norwood (7) and J.Minto (5). Monroe CC was led by 12 points from both Khalid Moreland and Dyree Rogers while Andre Hairston and Mahamadou Nimaga both went for 10 points apiece.
The Sullivan Generals are headed to Maryland next weekend to play CCBC-Dundalk and Cecil College in the Cecil College Winter Mixer.
