Loch Sheldrake, NY- The preseason #8 ranked Sullivan Generals opened their season at home in the Tip Off Classic. Saturday (11/6) the Generals took on the Montgomery College Raptors and Sunday they played the Golden Lions of Raritan Valley Community College. Sullivan split over the weekend, losing to RVCC, and moving to 1-1 on the season. The 94-90 loss to Raritan Valley CC marks the Generals first home loss since February 13, 2018; when the Generals lost to Westchester CC, 78-76.
On Saturday the Sullivan Men's Basketball team opened their 2021-22 season with an impressive 80-50 victory over Montgomery College. The Generals defense was on display in the first half as they held the Raptors to 20 points and went into halftime leading, 42-20. The second half wasn't much different and the Generals extended their lead to finish the game with a 80-50 victory.Â
Jarell White led all in both points, 18, and rebounds, 13, notching his first double-double in a Generals uniform. White shot 75% from the floor hitting 9 of 12.Â
Kareem Welch wasn't far behind shooting 71% (5-7) from the floor and 60% (3-5) from behind the arc to finish with 13 points while adding 3 rebounds and 2 assists.Â

Jay Alvarez chipped in with 8 points and 6 rebounds, apiece. Sullivan saw scoring from eight others: Jackson (7), Norwood (7), Tate (6), Tracey (5), Reneau (3), Gallon (2), Tulloch (2), and Barnes (1). Montgomery's Romario Pierre lead the Raptors with 14 points and 5 rebounds.
On Sunday, November 7th the Generals fell to Raritan Valley CC by four, losing 94-90. This is the first home loss for the Generals program since 2/13/18, snapping a 34 game win streak at home. RVCC overwhelmed Sullivan's defense and went for 94 points, shooting 52% from the field and hitting 9 threes. The Generals were able to keep pace in the first half and lead, 51-48, going into the break. The second half was a different story when the Golden Lions were able to slow the Generals offense down to take the lead and ultimately win the game, 94-90.Â
Kareem Welch scored a game high 28 points to go along with his 6 rebounds and 2 assists.Â
Jarell White went for his second double-double in two days finishing with 24 points and 16 rebounds.Â
Jalen Reneau added 12 more points in the loss and the rest of the scoring came from Jackson (8), Alvarez (6), DeSouza (4), Tracey (4), Norwood (2), and Minto (2). Raritan Valley CC had four guys score 81 of their 94 total points: E. Daivs had 24, A. Robinson went for 23, R. Carter finished with 18 and 11 rebounds, and D. Dextraze had 16.
The Generals are 1-1 on the season and head to the Monroe College Invitational next weekend where they will see Mercer College on Saturday (11/13 @5pm) and then, NJCAA Division I, Hagerstown CC on Sunday (11/14 @1pm).
