Loch Sheldrake, NY- On Saturday (3/7), the Sullivan Generals secured their spot in the 2020 NJCAA DII National Tournament by beating Erie CC, 78-72. The #2 ranked Generals opened the East A/B District Tournament facing the #7 Erie CC Kats. This was the first meeting of the two Top Ten teams with both a District Championship and a spot at the National tournament on the line. Erie jumped out to an early lead and controlled the game for the first half, the Kats led 36-27 going into halftime. After some halftime adjustments the Generals came out looking like a new team on a mission, they were able to come back get the lead and finish out the game on top, 78-72. The Generals shot 39% from the field, 27% from three while holding Erie to 30% shooting from the floor and 26% from three.
The Generals were led by
Jasiah Lewis who finished with 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists; hitting 5 threes.Â
Jalen Reneau had 15 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists.Â
Darius Lee added another 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists.Â
Khayri Dawson chipped in 10 points and 4 rebounds.Â
Kendall Robinson had 14 rebounds, 6 points, and 3 blocks.Â
Jordan Drain added 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks coming off the bench.
Josh Galloway ended with 5 points and 5 rebounds. Â
Erie was led by Ladji Fofana, who had a game high 30 points with 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Ahamadou Fofana chipped in with 22 points and 3 assists. Tavien Brown added another 11 points to the mix.
The Generals are back in action tomorrow when they play Essex in the East A/B District Championship.
