Generals Sweep Westchester on Sophomore Day

Sullivan keeps their postseason hopes alive behind Rodriguez and Colon...

LOCH SHELDRAKE, N.Y. - In what many would have phrased "must win" games the Generals were able to answer the task and take two games from Westchester CC on Thursday. The originally scheduled single nine inning game was switched to a 9 inn/7 inn DH in order to stay ahead of potential weather on Friday.

Sophomore right-handed pitcher Daniel Rodriguez would get the ball in game one and continued to put the team on his back going 7 2/3 innings scattering 6 earned runs on 10 hits while striking out 6. Rodriguez (4-2) has won four consecutive starts going at least six innings in each outing.

The bats would offer plenty of support on the day, 30 hits in total as the Generals would take game one 12-8 and game two 9-1.

In game one, three sophomores decided to do the heavy lifting as Pedro Abreu, Bryan De Aza and William Ramirez would all homer. Ramirez and De Aza would finish with three hits apiece. Justin Mateo would add two doubles and two stolen bases.

In game two Freshman right-handed pitcher Steven Colon (5-3) would go six innings allowing only one earned run while striking out nine. Sullivan would waste no time in scoring seven runs in the first frame after Westchester jumped out to a 1-0 lead.

JP Compres and Giovanni Diaz continued to swing hot bats, both going 3-for-4 with a double. Abreu went-3-for-3 with a double and two RBI and Ramriez was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Sullivan now stands at 19-21 (8-10 MHC) and will head to Westchester on Saturday to finish their regular season with a 9 inn/7 inn DH.
