Monroe Mustangs Take Down Generals

Final non-conference game of the year as Sullivan preps for Westchester series..

LOCH SHELDRAKE, N.Y.- Sullivan hosted NJCAA DI opponent Monroe College on Tuesday in their final non-conference matchup of the season. The Mustangs, a 2018 NJCAA College World Series participant, are prepping for their upcoming Region XV tournament while Sullivan is getting ready for their season determining four game series with Westchester CC. 

Both teams took the approach of "staff day" on the mound as they combined for 15 pitchers making an appearance. Monroe would get a run in the first off Sullivan starter Devin Edwards and would tack on a run in the 2nd inning off Emmanuel Zarzabal. Paul Villar would allow one run in the 5th to make it 3-0 before Generals' shortstop Giovanni Diaz would get the hosts on the board with a solo homerun, his 5th of the season. 

The score would stay 3-1 into the top of the seventh before Monroe would add 6 runs over the final three frames to put the game out of reach. Brandon Maravi finished with two hits on the day and Steven Colon and Villar both struck out two batters in their appearances. 

Sullivan drops to 17-21 on the year while Monroe improves to 23-20. The Generals will host the Westchester Vikings to kick off their final regular season series on Thursday at Generals park.
