Generals Sweep Colts in Thrilling Doubleheader

Win game two in an extra innings with De Aza walkoff single...

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. - With playoff aspirations on the line Sullivan was able to take a doubleheader vs. Orange CC on Saturday by the scores of 7-2 and 11-10 (8 innings). With the wins Sullivan improves to 16-19 (5-9 MHC) and still remain within striking distance of a possible Region XV tournament bid.

In game one the hot hand of sophomore RHP Daniel Rodriguez took to the mound and threw 6 innings, allowing only 3 hits and 2 ER while striking out four. Rodriguez improved to 3-2 on the year with his efforts. Giovanni Diaz would pitch a scoreless 7th, striking out two.

At the plate Brandon Maravi was 3-for-3 with a double and a RBI while William Ramirez cracked two doubles and drove in two runs. Pedro Abreu would add two hits, a double and a RBI.

In game two the Generals faced two separate deficits that appeared difficult to overcome. With a 2-1 lead into the 5th the Colts would score 6 runs to take a 7-2 lead. In the bottom half of the inning Sullivan would claw their way back into the contest by scoring three runs, two courtesy of Elijah Ervin's 5th homerun of the season. Diaz, with his second relief appearance of the afternoon would keep the Orange bats silent into the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh with two outs a single by JP Compres loaded the bases. Bryan De Aza would then work a walk to make it 7-6 and Pedro Abreu would tie the game on a sacrifice fly.

Orange would then answer back by scoring three unearned runs to grab a 10-7 lead in the extra frame. With one out in the bottom of the 8th Diaz doubled home Ervin who had reached on a fielder's choice. Jean Garcia, who had entered the game as a pinch runner in the 7th would flare a 2-run, two strike double down the right field line to tie the game, scoring Jon Minotti who had singled earlier and Diaz. After a Compres groundout, Bryan De Aza would single through the middle to give the Generals the 11-10 win in extras.

Compres and Diaz would both finish with two hits on the day. Diaz (1-0) went 4 innings in relief and did not allow an earned run.
