Brian Burns comes to Sullivan to serve as the Coordinator of Athletic Operations & Intramurals as well as the JV Baseball Head Coach after five seasons as a member of the baseball coaching staff at Plattsburgh State. After playing for the Cardinals from 2010-2013, Burns served as the teams pitching coach for one season before taking over as the assistant coach in 2015.

During his days on the mound, Burns worked his way through 135.1 innings while racking up a 10-5 record. Through the course of his final season in red and white, Burns compiled a record of 6-3 and sported a SUNYAC-best ERA of 2.03.

In 2013, Burns fired five complete games and his opponent batting average of .220 was bettered by only two other SUNYAC pitchers. Due to his prowess on the mound, he earned All-SUNYAC Second Team and ABCA/Rawlings All-New York Region Third Team accolades.

After the Cardinals’ 2014 campaign, Burns signed a contract to play for the Alpine Cowboys of the Pecos League - an independent baseball league comprised of 10 teams from different cities in Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas.
More recently, Burns has served as the head coach of the Syracuse Spartans of the New York Collegiate Baseball league, a Major League Baseball-sponsored summer league comprised of players from across the country. Four players from Burns’ 2018 Spartans team were named to the 2018 NYCBL All-Star Team.
