Sullivan Generals Win Men's Basketball Region XV Championship

Sullivan Beat Westchester CC and Orange CC to Win Championship

Saturday (2/25) & Sunday (2/26); Middletown, NY - The #2 seeded [#14 nationally ranked] Sullivan Generals won the 2023 NJCAA Men's Basketball Region XV Championships hosted by Orange CC.  Sullivan beat #3 seeded Westchester CC in the semifinals, 76-62; and then beat #1 seeded [#4 nationally ranked] Orange CC in the finals, 73-70.  

On Saturday the Generals were in control of the game from the jump.  Sullivan pulled out to an early lead and were able to go into the half up five on Westchester CC, 41-37.  The second half the Generals extended their lead by winning the half by ten and ultimately winning the game, 76-62.  Sullivan was led by Kipp Richvine scoring a game high 30 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists.  Jalen Minto went for 12 points and 9 rebounds.  The rest of the scoring came from: J.Currie (9), C.Gallon (9), J.Alvarez (6), K.Tracey (5), and N.Pounder (5).  

On Sunday the #14 nationally ranked and #2 seed Sullivan Generals beat the #4 nationally ranked and #1 seeded Orange CC.  It was a great game with many lead changes and went right down to the last shot.  Sullivan led by six at half, 36-30; Orange battled back cut the lead to three but were not able to overcome the Generals and Sullivan won 73-70.  The Generals' Jair Currie ended with a game high 27 points to go with 4 assists.  Jay Alvarez finished with a double-double going for 17 points and 13 rebounds.  Kipp Richvine went for 12 points.  The rest of the Generals scoring came from J.Minto (6), C.Gallon (6), K.Tracey (5), and N.Pounder (4).

Jair Currie and Kipp Richvine were named to the Region XV All-Tournament team.  

Sullivan moves on to the NJCAA District A Championship game and National Tournament qualifying game.  The Sullivan Generals will host #2 nationally ranked Niagara CC at 6:30pm on Saturday, March 4th in the Bunker of the Paul Gerry Fieldhouse on the campus of Sullivan County Community College.
