Hall of Fame Friday's (Issue 3)

Dr. John F. Walter

In today's installment of Hall of Fame Friday's, we turn our attention to Dr. John F. Walter.  For a decade, 1982-1992, Dr. Walter was the College President at Sullivan County Community College.  Dr. Walter was a supporter of Generals Athletics and influential in bringing the Sullivan Athletic program into the national spotlight.
 
Dr. John F. Walter was inducted into the Sullivan County Community College Athletic Hall of Fame with the inaugural Class of 2014.  Dr. Walter earned his Hall of Fame induction based off his support of athletics and his active role in using athletics to advance the SUNY Sullivan mission while bringing national recognition to the school.  The description on Dr. John F. Walter Hall of Fame plaque reads:  
 
Dr. John F. Walter served as the College President for 10 years and was an avid supporter of Sullivan County Community College Athletics.  He was an integral part of the advancement of the Athletic Program to national prominence and was the sitting President during the programs first ever Men's Basketball National Championship in 1992.  A visionary, who saw athletics as a vehicle to deliver the college mission to the local community with resounding success.  Regularly attending home contests for all sports and intramural programs, Dr. Walter's impact on the program has had a profound effect on the standard of excellence that is "Sullivan Generals Athletic".
