Today's installment of Hall of Fame Friday's focuses on an outstanding former student-athlete, Mike Hay. Mike Hay played for the Sullivan County Community College Men's Basketball Team from 1972-1974. Over those two seasons Mike became the first General to score 100 points and earn national recognition by earning All-American Honors.

Mike Hay was inducted into the Sullivan County Community College Athletic Hall of Fame with the inaugural Class of 2014. Mike earned his Hall of Fame induction based off his performance as a sophomore student-athlete on the Men's Basketball Team from 1973-1974. The description on Mike's Hall of Fame plaque reads:

Mike Hay was Sullivan County Community College's first ever All-American student/athlete being named to the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball 1st Team for the 1973-1974 season after averaging 19 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists per game. He additionally receiver a NJCAA D1 All-American Honorable Mention nod during his freshman season (1972-1973) after averaging 27 points and 10 rebounds per game. An unstoppable scorer, the 6'2" Guard scored 1238 career points making him the first ever Sullivan player to amass 100 career points. Playing for Head Coach John Webster, Mike ld the Generals to their best season in school history to that point.Â
On March 11, 2014 the New York Senate adopted a Legislative Resolution (J3872) to recognize and congratulate student-athlete Mike Hay on his selection to the Sullivan Generals Athletics Hall of Fame. Resolution J3872, was sponsored by former New York State Senator, John J Bonacic, who represented Sullivan County and parts of Orange County, Ulster County, and Delaware County. NYS Senate Resolution J3872 sates:

    "WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
    WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
    WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate student-athlete Mike Hay upon his selection as an inductee into the Inaugural SUNY Sullivan Generals Athletics Hall of Fame to be celebrated at a reception with President, Dr. Karin Hilgersom, on Friday, March 14, 2014, in the Harold L. Gold Founders Hall Lobby of SUNY Sullivan in Loch Sheldrake, New York; and
    WHEREAS, During this year's NJCAA DIII Men's Basketball National Championship Tournament, SUNY Sullivan will be opening the SUNY Sullivan Generals Athletic Hall of Fame; with its 50th Anniversary as a fitting platform, the college will induct its first class representing athletes and boosters from the college's five decades; the Hall of Fame will be housed in the College's Paul Gerry Fieldhouse; and
    WHEREAS, Mike Hay was Sullivan County Community College's first ever All-American student-athlete being named to the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball 1st Team for the 1973 to 1974 season; he averaged 19 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists per game; and
    WHEREAS, Additionally, Mike Hay received a NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention nod during his freshman season from 1972 to 1973, after averaging 27 points and 10 rebounds per game; and
    WHEREAS, An unstoppable scorer, the 6'2" guard scored 1,238 career points making him the first ever Sullivan player to amass 1,000 career points; at that point, Mike led the Generals to their best seasons in school history; and
    WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by Mike Hay was due in great part to the efforts of Head Coach John Webster, a skilled and inspirational tutor, respected for his ability to develop potential into excellence; and
    WHEREAS, Mike Hay's overall record was outstanding; he was loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans, friends and the community at large; and
    WHEREAS, SUNY Sullivan's strong athletic program is a point of pride at the college and reflects its commitment to sportsmanship, academics, and the positive growth of student athletes in its community; and
    WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and accomplishment, and Coach John Webster and Mike Hay have clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of their school; now, therefore, be it
    RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to congratulate student-athlete Mike Hay upon his selection as an inductee into the Inaugural SUNY Sullivan Generals Athletics Hall of Fame; and be it further
    RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Mike Hay."
