Bronx, NY- The Sullivan Generals Cross Country team traveled to the Bronx, NY for their season opener at Van Cortlandt Park. The first 5-mile race of the season had 149 men entered, representing 20 colleges. The first race of the season can be a shock to freshman who are challenged with the added 2 miles from a high school to college race course. This additional 2 miles takes time to adapt to and fine-tune race strategies. As the race came to a close Coach Weintraub was proud of her team and their accomplishments.
Freshman William Siegel led the men's team with a time of 38:00. Right on his heels was a pair of teammates, De Barros and Battle, taking turns passing each other with De Barros (40:38) edging out Battle (41:28) in the end.
