Generals Fall to Hawks 10-9

Sullivan leaves tying run on 3rd in the bottom of the 9th...

LOCH SHELDRAKE, N.Y. - A back and forth affair on Thursday afternoon resulted in Rockland CC getting the final say as they hung on to defeat the homestanding Generals 10-9 in the opening game of the four game series.

Rockland would strike first with a sacrifice flyball in the top of the 1st inning off of starting pitcher Jordan Kazen. The Generals would knot the score at 1-1 with a Jon Minotti RBI double in the bottom of the second.

Both squads would put up four run innings with Generals grabbing a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning; aided by a Pedro Abreu solo homerun and RBI doubles by Devin Edwards and Giovanni Diaz.

A Rockland four spot in the top of the 5th would make it 6-5. Kazen would throw a scoreless 6th, his final inning. The Generals offense would respond by getting him off the hook for the decision with a Justin Mateo RBI groundout to make it 6-6 after six complete innings.

The Hawks would put up their second four run inning in the 8th to allow for what would be a comfortable 10-6 lead. Sullivan continue to fight back scoring two in the bottom the 8th. An RBI double by Mateo followed by a RBI triple by Bryan De Aza would make it 10-8.

In the bottom of the 9th, with one run already in courtesy of an Elijah Ervin triple and Pedro Abreu groundout, Sullivan would have two runners aboard but the Hawks were able to secure the final out.

Sullivan drops to 12-12 (2-3 MHC) as Rockland improves to 16-7 (5-0 MHC). Game two set for Friday at 4pm at Generals Park.
