Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Sullivan Men's Basketball Over The Weekend

Loss One, Win One

Rochester, NY- The Sullivan Men's Basketball Team traveled to Monroe CC over the weekend to play two games in the Murph Shapiro Tournament.  On Saturday, 11/9, they took on Mohawk Valley CC (2-0) and then Cecil College (2-4) on Sunday, 11/10.  With a 1-1 record over the weekend they Generals moved to 3-1 to start the 2019-2020 season.

Saturday (11/9), Sullivan faced off against the Hawks of Mohawk Valley CC.  The game proved to be an old fashion shootout with both teams shooting over 50% from the field.  The Hawks came out shooting from the gate and got up quickly early in the half.  After an intense timeout by the Generals they began to buckle down and play some defense.  Their efforts allowed them to slow down the Hawks scoring and put a run on to end the half up 9, 50-41.  The second half started off where the first half ended with each team putting on impressive double digit runs to limited resistance of the defense.  As the clock wound down it was a two possession game with the Generals on the wrong end of a Hawks run.  A few missed Sullivan shots followed by fouls allowed the Hawks to extend the lead to 9 and hand the Generals their first loss of the season, 92-81.  Darius Lee of Sullivan had a game high 23 points.  The Hawks were lead by Jordanny Cuevas-Mart hitting four threes and ended with 21 points followed by Jonathan Dean with 18, Jason Primus with 15 and 11 rebounds, and Justin Steed with 14.  Kendall Robinson of Sullivan went 4-10 from beyond the arc and finished with 19 points, while freshman Eddie Sanchez added two more threes and ended with 14.  Freshman Jalen Reneau got his first collegiate start and didn't disappoint with 11 points and 5 assists.

Sunday (11/10), proved to be another shootout with both teams putting up 80+ points.  The game started off with Sullivan hitting two 3s and Cecil College answering with two of their own, from there is was high octane offensive battle.  Cecil hit 9 threes in the first half, shooting 38% from the floor and an outstanding 60% from three; Sullivan shot the same 37% from both the field and three but extra possessions provided them more scoring opportunities.  Everything was tied up going into halftime, 45-45.  The Generals showed some impressive spurts on defense in the second half and were able to limit Cecil to only 4 made threes on 23% as well as holding them to 29% from the field.  The defense proved to be key in holding Cecil to 37 2nd Half points while Sullivan continued on pace and scored 44 in the second half.  The end saw the Generals marking a win down, 89-82.  Cecil College was led by Jacob Falko with a game-high 26 points and Justin Cohen chipping in 12 of his own; Julius Cobb had a big night with 11 rebounds.  THe Generals were led by veterans Darius Lee and Jasiah Lewis scoring 24 points and 19, respectively.  Kendall Robinson came out on a tear with his first double-double of the season having a career high 18 rebounds and scoring 15.  Josh Galloway and Eddie Sanchez weren't far behind with 11 apiece.

The Sullivan Generals are back at it again next Saturday (11/16) at home against Manor College at 4pm.
